Today’s engineering teams struggle with fragmented knowledge. Having critical context scattered across code, documentation, and inside of team members’ heads can make it hard to get up to speed in a new area and get things done. Copilot Spaces solve this by centralizing your project context so Copilot delivers smarter, more relevant responses grounded in your work. This includes items like code, docs, specs, and custom Copilot instructions in the space. You can then share spaces across your GitHub organization to quickly scale expertise and accelerate every developer on your team.

👩‍💻 Turn Copilot into a subject matter expert

Spaces let you ground Copilot’s knowledge in a curated set of specific code, documents, notes, and more. With this extra context, Copilot becomes an expert in the task at hand—from understanding how a system works, to why it was built in a particular way, or even best practice examples. You can also add custom instructions to a space, further tailoring Copilot’s answers in that space.

⚖️ Scale expertise across teams

Use spaces to centralize knowledge and share expertise with teammates. Create a space under your organization and simply share it. Teammates can then work with Copilot in that space, accessing expertise they don’t have and saving them time.

⏲️ Always up to date

Your code is already safely stored on GitHub. Add it to a space by attaching it directly from your repository—no copy and paste needed. Files and repositories added to a space are always kept up to date as they change, making Copilot an evergreen expert in your project.
